Other Guatemala Travel Pictures

We've put other travel pictures up on the Kodak website if you want to view them. This page is really for Maria Anne, but some of you have been asking to see our pictures of Guatemala. They haven't been annotated yet, so you'll have to thumb through them without any descriptions.

You don't have to sign into the Kodak site to view these pictures, but Kodak isn't real obvious about telling you that. If you check out the image below, you can see (at the red highlight) where to click in order to view these pictures without having to create an account. because I figured out a work around!

Thanks Kodak, next time I'm using Flickr!

3rd Day in Guatemala

Here are the pictures from the 3rd day in Guatemala with Maria. We were able to wake up with her (3 times!) before Karla (our lawyer) and the foster parents showed up for lunch. We have a fun, long lunch with them all in the hotel before we put Maria in the cab with them to go back to their place. Very Sad!

But we'll get to see them all in June (or so). We also sent them off with cameras, so we should have some pictures of Maria from that time, instead of just pictures from her monthly doctor visits.

From here it was off to Tikal and Antigua. We won't be posting those pictures here but we'll add a link to them.

Common Hope

When we were visiting in Guatemala, we kept on running into people from Common Hope. Common Hope is a non-profit that is trying to improve education, health care, and housing for some of the rural and urban poor in Guatemala. We recommend that you check them out. There’s also a permalink to them on the right hand side.
Videos from Visit

Here are some videos from our visit with Maria.

Don't be fooled that most of them show Maria crying. Michael wasn't feeling well most of the 2nd day, so we didn't take any videos then. She didn't cry the whole time. :)

2nd day in Guatemala

Sorry there haven't been more postings. Both Anne and Michael came down with a bad case of "Yik'in Chan K'awil's Revenge". This is the Guatemala version of Montezuma's Revenge, but worse since the Mayans were apparently more ferocious than the Aztecs.

So for most of the 2nd day we really hung around the hotel, and mostly the room. Although when we met the foster family, they did give us the "foster documents" that would have enabled us to go out and about with Maria (we found out that most people don't get these).

Not that Maria minded. She just loved the attention she received. She quickly got over her fear of being away from her foster parents, and was quick to share her smiles and laughs with us. In between feeding, napping and pooping, of course.

We were able to call a bunch of different people (using Skype) but the MariaCam didn't work that well. Or, rather, using AIM for that didn't work. We were only able to share video with Karen, and failed with four other people.

So here are the photos from day 2. We'll also try to post some of the videos. For day 3, we're meeting the lawyer and foster family for lunch, then sadly handing Maria back to them. After that we're heading up to Tikal to see the ruins.

First Day's Visit In Guatemala

Anne and Michael got into Guatemala City around noon on Sat March 18. On the morning of Sun March 19, Maria's foster parents (Wilma and Guillermo) brought her over to our hotel. You can tell that they love her, with how much fussing and cooing they were doing.

Maria is standing (supported) on her two legs, which is great for her development. Manuel showed us how he liked bouncing and blanacing her on his legs.

We brought her up to our room, where she immediately started crying. Probably because she missed her foster parents, and because Michael likes his hotel rooms to be COLD (which is going to change).

Maria is currently sleeping, so we're able to post these pictures. Keep on checking back for more!
