So ... What's going on?
You may well ask. Well, it looks like we've been caught up in some particularly odious government red tape. We knew that Maria's mother was a minor when we received her referral last November.
At that time, the Guatemalan government didn't have any special processes for minor birth mothers. But apparently they instituted a policy of investigating such adoptions at the beginning of this year. And since the paperwork for adoptions from Guatemala was going slow overall, they decided to investigate this case.
So what were they investigating and what does this tell us? We don't really know. But we've heard that this investigation was to conclude by the end of September, so we're hopeful that we will have an update soon. Cross your fingers!
